A Little Tour of St Leonards on Sea

Inspired by watching the film made as part of an application by St Leonards on Sea for government funding to improve the amenities in the town and to stop the high street dying, the so-called Portas Pilots Towns, I walked around on a bright, hot Sunday morning and took photos of premises that caught my eye, and which show that the place is already making significant progress.

How much more might be possible with a little bit more investment?  St Leonards’ application wasn’t successful in this first round of grants, but I understand the team are not giving up.

Seeing all the new gallery spaces that have appeared, and the repairing and sprucing up of the buildings, the pastel stucco facades and the washed windows, suggests it is beginning to test the theory that where artists and creative endeavour flourish, economic benefits for everyone follow.
